The 2008 Tribeca continues as Subaru’s flagship, in its latest guise offering a peerless mix of attributes which confirms its position as a progressive and trendsetting recreational vehicle, combining car-like agility, safety and comfort with the space, flexibility and presence of a full-sized SUV.
It is the biggest, plushest Subaru yet and takes its unusual name from a culturally-advanced, sophisticated and cosmopolitan neighbourhood on New York’s Manhattan Island. This ‘meeting of ways’ sums up how the car of the same name represents the confluence of three automotive genres: luxury sedan, multi purpose vehicle, and upmarket sports-utility.
The Tribeca now has more power (increased to 190 kW) and torque (increased to 350 Nm), with the powerful H6 engine expanded in capacity to 3.6 litres to give the Tribeca exceptional hill climbing and towing ability, without sacrificing economy and refinement. The five-speed automatic transmission has been reconfigured to suit the engine characteristics, resulting in a more relaxed nature, yet with an impressive turn of speed when called upon to deliver it.
Refreshed styling, added practicality and an even longer list of standard convenience and comfort features makes the new Tribeca more than worthy of the role of standard bearer for the Subaru brand.
